(English) ICCR Chair Inaugural Lecture: International Organizations: An Indian Perspective by Prof. Dr. Rajendra Jain

Welcome: Prof. Dr. Idesbald Goddeeris, KU Leuven

Abstract:

Since its independence, India has been an active participant in virtually all international organizations. The lecture will discuss India’s role in the United Nations and highlight its perceptions, contributions, and quest for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council. It will examine the Indian role in the BRICS – a new club of the emerging powers – as well as in the G-20 and the Asia Europe Meeting (ASEM). It will also assess New Delhi’s role in several Asian organizations, viz. the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), the East Asia Summit (EAS), and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
