Foreword Mayor Ridouani

Mohamed RidouaniIndia House Leuven serves as a hub for a wide range of activities that will bring together Indians and residents of Leuven. Since 2013, India House Leuven has organised a variety of activities, such as exhibitions, readings and dance and music performances. In addition to academic exchanges, business and network missions in close cooperation with Leuven MindGate. We hope to see you at one of our activities.

India House Leuven opened doors on 5 October 2013, following the opening of Europalia India (4 October 2013 - 26 January 2014). This is a joint initiative of the city of Leuven, the KU Leuven and other stakeholders, which include cultural and social organisations, businesses and private individuals that have a special interest in the cooperation that exists between India and Belgium. In concert with all of these partners, India House Leuven is seeking to build on a number of initiatives that have taken place in the recent past, such as the Euro India Summit, which was hosted by the city of Leuven in October 2011, and the Leuven India Focus, an academic initiative that has been organising seminars at the KU Leuven since April 2010.

An increasing number of Indian students and researchers are spending time at the KU Leuven, at imec and also at numerous spin-off companies. Additionally, there are several Leuven-based companies with important business partners in India. Due to India’s many opportunities for growth, the city of Leuven is seeking to strengthen it academic, cultural, social and economic cooperation with this country. India House Leuven is aspiring to build a bridge, so to speak, between Leuven and India. The mission of India House Leuven was inspired by a similar initiative in Spain: the Casa de la India in the city of Valladolid.
